Fans from both Highlands and Hendersonville joined at Zachary Field in Highlands last week for the first round of the North Carolina state 1A Women’s Soccer playoffs between our Lady Highlanders and the Hendersonville Lady Bearcats. A bit jittery at first, both teams settled down after a few minutes and played strong, seemingly well matched. The first half consisted of mostly back and forth action with the Lady Highlanders holding their own. Unfortunately, the second half did not fare as well for the Highlanders. The Lady Bearcats scored within the first several minutes and that set the tone for the rest of the game. The final score was a 6-0 loss for the Highlanders, setting their season record at 5-8.

The Lady Highlanders will only be losing 2 seniors this year, with 9 starters returning for the 2009-2010 season. They are looking forward to a winning season and advancing even farther in the playoffs. Hope you’ll come and watch them play next spring.
